Alexander Isak Transfer Talks Heat Up

International media claimed on Tuesday that Newcastle United coach Eddie Howe said he cannot control Alexander Isak’s future at the club as he is linked with Liverpool.

The Sweden international is reportedly considering leaving Newcastle this summer, with Liverpool being the frontrunners to sign him. Newcastle have continuously refused to release the player, who was left out of Howe’s 30-man squad for the pre-season tour of Asia due to a ‘minor thigh injury’.

Isak is still contracted with us, therefore we cannot dictate his future at the club, but Howe wants him to stay. He remains our player. His contract is with us “Howe told Seoul media.

“We influence his future. I hope we still have all options. I want him to stay, but I can’t control it.

“No team has made an official offer for Alex. I hope he remains and plays next year.”

Newcastle’s pre-season friendly with Celtic, which they defeated 4-0, did not include Isak, who scored 27 goals in 42 games in all competitions last season.

Alexander Isak joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022 and has three years left on his contract. Newcastle won the Carabao Cup and Champions League qualification last season with the 25-year-old’s 62 goals in three years.

Newcastle will finish their Asia preseason tour with a K-League XI in Suwon on July 30 and Tottenham Hotspur in Hong Kong on August 3.
