Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid team came back from two goals down to win a thrilling 4-4 draw on Tuesday for a 5-4 aggregate triumph and go to the Copa del Rey final. Ancelotti dismissed questions about his team’s poor performance and lauded their effort in a thrilling match.
“We achieved our goal today, which was to reach the final, and there is not much time to think about it,” Ancelotti told a press conference.
“The game was enjoyable with some mistakes and many excellent things. We made the final and had fun.
I never thought we’d be out because anything can happen at the Bernabeu. We never quit when behind. We never quit, especially at home with fans.” After David Alaba diverted two balls into his own goal, Ancelotti called it “bad luck” but pushed his defence to play more focused.
“It’s bad to concede four goals,” Ancelotti stated.
Our team has a lot of front-line effectiveness but little balance. However, getting four goals against Real is difficult, so we can’t disregard our assault. I believe we are doing well.”
Real Madrid, who haven’t won the Spanish Cup in almost a decade, will face Barcelona or Atletico Madrid in a thrilling final in Seville next month. Atletico rallied to level Barca 4-4 before Wednesday’s Madrid second leg.
