Barcelona Drops Points in Getafe Clash

At lowly Getafe on Saturday, Mauro Arambarri’s goal negated Jules Kounde’s early goal, extending Barcelona’s La Liga losing streak to four games. With 39 points, Barcelona is four points behind Real Madrid and five points behind Atletico.

In the ninth minute, Kounde beat Getafe goalkeeper David Soria from close range following an incredible ball from Pedri.

The French full-back took Pedri’s ball, but Soria stopped his initial attempt. When the goalie misplayed, Kounde scored. A close-range header from a Kounde cross was missed by Raphinha. Getafe equalized a minute later when goalie Inaki Pena palmed the ball to Arambarri, who scored the rebound after Pena had saved a volley from Coba da Costa.

Barcelona controlled possession but was unable to penetrate Getafe’s five-man defense, so Lamine Yamal, Robert Lewandowski, and Raphinha had quiet nights. Raphinha missed a close-range attempt in the second half, and Soria made a one-handed save on a curling attempt by substitute Frankie De Jong.

After four seasons without a league victory at the Coliseum in South Madrid, where they last triumphed in September 2019, Kounde’s goal was Barca’s first in Getafe in over five years. Hansi Flick’s Barcelona resumed their patchy season on Saturday.

Since defeating Mallorca in early December, there have been four league games without a victory.

“I’m annoyed. “I’m sorry about the draw,” Kounde said to Movistar Plus.

We controlled the game, and they only managed one goal. Unfortunately, we make a mistake. We avoided taking any chances.
