Guardiola: Barcelona, Real Madrid Would Have Sacked Me

Pep Guardiola said Barcelona or Real Madrid would have sacked him if he had played like he did last season with Manchester City.

City’s worst season since Guardiola joined was 2024-25, when they finished third in the Premier League, 13 points behind Liverpool. City’s Champions League performance was poor, as Guardiola’s team was eliminated early.

Despite losing nine of 13 games between October and mid-December, City’s management gave Guardiola another contract. Guardiola feels he would have been dismissed with Barcelona or Real Madrid if he had performed similarly.

“If this were Spain, I wouldn’t coach in October, November, or December after this year. I would have been fired at Barça or Madrid, Guardiola remarked.

“It wasn’t a question here. Be patient, he said.

Guardiola mentioned Carlo Ancelotti, who left Madrid for the Brazil national team.

Check out Carlo Ancelotti. The City manager said he’s headed to train in Brazil after winning the Champions League and La Liga four days ago. City has already backed Guardiola in the transfer market, adding Rayan Aït-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, and Tijjani Reijnders for the upcoming season.
