How Did Man City Impress Pep Guardiola After a Long Break?

In the FIFA Club World Cup, Pep Guardiola said, ‘It has been a long time since we had a performance like this’ as Manchester City beat Juventus 5-2.

Jeremy Doku, Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, Savinho, and Pierre Kalulu’s own goal helped City beat the Italians on Thursday. Guardiola’s team entered the US after a disappointing season. Pep thinks the team’s performance against Juventus could be a sign of improvement.

“I liked how we did it,” Guardiola added.

“We haven’t played like this off and on the ball in a while. We celebrated beating a top team because our players worked hard.

“This is just one game, but I think the guys experienced being a good team again. Performances always inspire confidence, not history.”

City beat Wydad AC and Al Ain with a weak team. Guardiola chose a stronger team against Juventus, who overpowered them. Guardiola stated the players felt like a strong unit for a long period and performed like they did a decade ago.

“The players felt for the first time in a long, long time we performed the way we perform,” he remarked.

“We won the last two games, but tonight we adjusted and played well. The audience again had a huge impact like in the first two games.

“I’m happy because the players must realise what we need to do to be like we were a decade ago.”
