Bruno Fernandes is one of the most instrumental midfielders of the 2025/26 campaign, according to Fernandes Premier League Player recognition. As a captain, the Manchester United captain performed well in all the games this season and guided his side to third place and qualify the side for the Champions league.
His statistics tell the story. Fernandes had eight goals and equalled the Premier League single-season record for assists in 20 with. He’d previously made the same record by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne, so his performance was even more remarkable in league history. His leadership was a major factor in Manchester United’s consistency, in addition to the statistics. He set the pace in games, delivered chances from the pressure and came out to the rescue in critical moments.
He was able to bridge the gap between midfield and attack, providing United with a solid structure throughout the season. This is also a testament to his growth as a player. He demonstrated his attacking quality in previous seasons, but he displayed his maturity and decision making in this season. He was able to mix creativity with discipline and kept the team at a level with stiff competition.
On the tactical level, Fernandes was the playmaker in the middle but was flexible depending on the game situation. He took a step back to create space or a step forward to help attacks. He was very difficult to cover and his impact was greater because of his flexibility. When he beat the other top performers, he was clearly impressive throughout the season. This isn’t a matter of moments of brilliance, it’s about performing throughout the game.
