On Tuesday, Everton and Manchester City announced the loan of Jack Grealish for a season. Grealish, who joined City from Aston Villa for £100 million four years ago, had fewer minutes last season, fuelling transfer rumors. The England international made only seven City starts in 2024/25 and was not selected for the Club World Cup.
Everton manager David Moyes loves Grealish, who turns 30 next month. Reports say Everton, which finished 13th last season, might make the loan permanent for 50 million pounds at the end. Grealish earns 300,000 pounds every week.
Grealish will wear 18, the number of Paul Gascoigne and Wayne Rooney, according to Everton. Grealish said he was excited to join Everton and called the club excellent in a statement.
“I’m thrilled to join Everton. I find it huge. This club and its fans are wonderful “Grealish stated.
“As soon as I spoke to the manager, I knew there was only one place that I wanted to go.”
Looking ahead to next year’s FIFA World Cup, the 29-year-old needs game time. Also excluded from England’s 2024 European Championship team.
Moyes believes Gealish joined the team at the perfect time.
“I think we’re getting him at a good time because he’s experienced, he understands the Premier League, and we’re all fully aware of the levels he’s capable of performing to,” he said.
“I know Jack’s ambition is to get back into the England squad so hopefully we can help him achieve that over the course of the season.”
In 157 appearances, Grealish scored 17 goals for City, helping the club win the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup in 2023. Grealish might play in Everton’s Premier League opener against Leeds United on August 18.
