On Friday, international media reported that Newcastle United defender Dan Burn warned the departure of Alexander Isak will ‘upset’ the team.
Isak is reportedly connected to Liverpool, who are favourites to sign him. Newcastle have been reluctant to sell the player, who was left out of Eddie Howe’s 30-man squad for the pre-season tour of Asia due to a ‘minor thigh injury’, but reports suggest that a £150 million ($203m) deal could change their minds.
Isak was also absent from Newcastle’s 4-0 loss to Celtic in their Saturday friendly. Burn stated Isak’s departure will effect the players upon arriving for the club’s preseason tour, but he hopes he stays.
“If we lost any player it would upset our tight-knit group that’s been together for two or three years now,” he said.
“Any player leaving doesn’t help, but we’ll control what we can.
We’re excited to see Alex when he’s ready. The question is for Alex. He’s a key player, but we have a lot of talent. I also liked signing Anthony Elanga.” Last season, Alexander Isak scored 27 goals in 42 games to help Newcastle qualify for the Champions League and win the Carabao Cup.
Newcastle will play Arsenal in Singapore on Sunday, July 27, then touring South Korea to play a K-League All-Star team on 30 July and Tottenham on 3 August.
