Real Madrid defeated Villarreal 2-1 on Saturday thanks to Kylian Mbappe’s two goals, moving them to the top of LaLiga. Aurelien Tchouameni deflected Alex Baena’s corner, allowing Juan Foyth to score from close range in the seventh minute.
Ten minutes later, Mbappe scored from close range after Brahim Diaz’s blocked shot fell to him. After six minutes, the French international scored his 20th league goal of the season, finishing Lucas Vazquez’s pass.
Latching onto Vinicius Jr.’s through ball in the second half, Mbappe nearly completed his hat-trick, but the offside flag was raised.
“It’s the last time we’ll play a game with less than 72 hours’ rest,” stated Carlo Ancelotti after Wednesday’s Champions League shootout win over Atletico Madrid.
Real have 60 points, three ahead of Barcelona, who have a game in hand after their encounter with Osasuna was postponed last week. They play third-placed Atletico on Sunday.
