Liam Delap Joins Chelsea for £30 Million Transfer

On Wednesday, Chelsea announced the signing of Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap until 2031 to boost their attacking line. Delap, 22, chose to play with former Manchester City colleague Cole Palmer despite offers from Manchester United, Everton, and Newcastle United.

Reports say Delap waited for United’s Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao before making a choice. United’s Europa League final loss meant they would miss the Champions League next season, and insiders say Delap favored Chelsea.

The striker, who scored 12 goals in 37 Premier League games for Ipswich in 2024-25, was signed by Chelsea. The club was relegated. Chelsea said it was pleased to announce the signing of Liam Delap from Ipswich Town on a contract until 2031.

The club said Delap, an England Under-21 international, scored 12 Premier League goals in 2024/25 and was shortlisted for Young Player of the Year. After making his selection, Delap said he understands the club’s stature and intends to reach new heights.

“I understand this club’s stature and the trajectory it’s on with these players and the head coach,” Delap added.

“It’s going to be an incredible place for me to develop, and I hope to achieve amazing things here and help the club win more trophies,” said.
