Liverpool’s Arne Slot Targets Premier League Title at Anfield

As Liverpool lead the Premier League by twelve points over Arsenal, head coach Arne Slot wants to lift the trophy in front of a crowded Anfield. Slot might become the first Dutchman and third Liverpool manager to win the league title in his rookie season. Joe Fagan (1983–84) and Kenny Dalglish (1985–86) did it before.

Liverpool last won the league five years ago under Jürgen Klopp. Due of the COVID-19 pandemic, the title celebrations were held in an empty stadium. Liverpool won its first league title in 30 years.

Slot hopes this season’s title win is different.

“It’s a big responsibility because we know Covid won the league the last time this club won, so everybody is looking forward to Sunday,” he said.

“We realize there’s still work to do, at least at one point. We know that within this building.

“Hopefully our fans support us in the best way they can, as they have all season, and know we still need a point.”

Slot would join José Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti, Antonio Conte, and Manuel Pellegrini in winning the Premier League in their first season. The Dutchman says he’s not thinking about such records.

“I get these questions, so it comes to your mind, of course, but that’s the last thing a manager thinks about right now,” he said. “I’m only concerned with having all the players available and preparing them.”

Liverpool need one point from their next five matches, starting Sunday against Tottenham Hotspur, to win the title.
