Manchester City signed Palmeiras defender Vitor Reis Tuesday on a four- and a-half-year contract. To pay the 19-year-old Reis for the Club World Cup 29.6 million pounds ($36.20 million), Palmieras paid.
Txiki Begiristain, City’s football director, said, “We are happy to have signed Viter Reis, a gifted young defender.”
“In his small time in senior football in Brazil, he has shown he has the ability to go very far in the game and we know that working with Pep and our coaches will help to get the best out of him.”
Key member of Pep Guardiola’s team makeover, Reis, a Brazil under-17 international, has participated in 18 league games for Palmeiras.
Reis will be joining 20-year-old Abdukodir Khusanov, a brilliant young player who arrived from Lens on Monday for 33.6 million pounds, as part of the team’s generational change.
Reis “wasn’t anywhere else to go” when Manchester City knocked following his most trying transfer battle.
“Everyone has seen the fantastic achievements in recent seasons; I want to make my mark as we seek more trophies,” he said. “Every young player wants to work with Pep Guardiola; I know he will help me to grow into the best player I can be.”
Reis approved after talking over the relocation with Savinho.
“City also have a lot of expertise of working with Brazilian footballers and joining the likes of (goalkeeper) Ederson and Savinho in the squad will be a big help to me,” added.
Goods from Palmium Academy Reis, a great right back and centre back, debuted for seniors in June of last year. Apparently, real Madrid and other big European clubs sought him.
