Manchester City announced on Tuesday that Gianluigi Donnarumma has joined from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for five years after Ederson Santana de Moraes left.
Donnarumma cost the club 30 million pounds ($40.5 million), according to British media. The 26-year-old Italian goalkeeper will stay at Etihad Stadium until summer 2030 on a five-year contract.
Donnarumma was named Player of the Tournament and helped Italy win EURO 2020 by defeating England 3-2 on penalties at Wembley. Donnarumma was proud to join Manchester City and applauded Guardiola.
“To have signed for Manchester City is such a special and proud moment for me,” Donnarumma added.
“I’m joining a world-class team led by one of football’s greatest managers, Pep Guardiola. Every footballer wants to join this club.”
He stated that he is honored to be on the squad and committed to its success.
“I have admired watching Manchester City for many years – to now be able to play for the Club is a huge honour and privilege,” Donnarumma said.
I can’t wait to meet my new teammates, staff, and fans. I’ll cherish playing at Etihad Stadium.
“I am excited for what lies ahead and can promise that I will give absolutely everything to try and help the Club achieve even more success.”
