On Thursday, Neymar revealed that Kylian Mbappe got “jealous” of his connection with Lionel Messi once Messi joined PSG in 2021. On Romario’s podcast, Neymar blamed egos for the three stars’ inability to gel at the French club. Before leaving PSG for Al-Hilal in 2023, 32-year-old Neymar revealed he got along with Mbappe when he joined in 2017.
“I had my issues with him, we had a little fight, but he was a boy who at the beginning, when he arrived, was fundamental,” Mbappe stated.
I always helped him, talked to him, and joked that he would be great.
“He came to my house, we went out to dinner together.”
But Neymar said Mbappe’s behavior improved after Messi arrived from Barcelona in 2021. Neymar knew Messi from their great Barcelona partnership in 2013–2017.
“We spent some good years together, but then, when Messi arrived, I think he got a little jealous,” he remarked.
“He didn’t want to share me with anyone and then the fights began, the change of behaviour,” he said.
Neymar said that PSG’s elite trio failed to reach their potential due to poor teamwork.
“You must realize you play with others. Others must support you: ‘I’m the best, OK’, but who’ll give you the ball? Neymar stated good individuals must pass the ball.
“Everyone’s ego prevented it from working. Without running and helping each other, it’s impossible to win today ” said.
Neymar hasn’t spoken on his future, despite rumors he may return to Brazil or MLS. In 16 months in Saudi Arabia, Neymar has played only a few games due to injury. Despite being delighted in Saudi Arabia, Neymar noted “in six months, everything can change.”
