Mohammed Kudus Injury issues have worsened following a new blow that Tottenham Hotspur confirmed, and which is likely to keep the winger out until the end of the season.
The 23-year-old assailant has already been sidelined since January with a quad injury during a Premier League match. His recovery was going well and there was an increasing hope that he would be back during the March international break.
The recent update however, tells a different story. Kudus has experienced a complication in his recovery and the club has to rethink his recovery process. It is now quite possible that he would have to undergo surgery and this would virtually terminate his campaign.
This is a bad timing development to new coach of the club, Roberto De Zerbi. Tactical flexibility is curtailed with just a few games left to play, especially by losing an energetic attacking alternative such as Kudus. His speed and straightforward manner had been anticipated to feature prominently in the last sprint.
In a larger sense, this defeat is indicative of the erratic behavior of muscle injuries. Small complications even when recovery appears to be going well will postpone the recovery of a player very much. The medical team at Tottenham will now look at long term fitness and not rushing him back.
The club has ensured that Kudus will be subjected to additional specialist evaluation prior to final decision. At this point, it is unclear when he will be available but it is unlikely that he will play again this season.
Tottenham now has to play without him. It now turns to the depth of the squad and the response of the team during the final part of the campaign.
