Mount’s Double Powers Man United Past Athletic Bilbao

Mason Mount scored twice as Manchester United defeated Athletic Bilbao 4-1 in the second leg of the semi-final at Old Trafford on Thursday to go to the Europa League final. United started nervously despite a 3-0 first-leg lead.

After Harry Maguire’s clearing went to Mikel Jauregizar, Bilbao scored in the 31st minute. The visitors won the first half 1-0. Mount scored following a perfect feed from Leny Yoro in the 72nd minute to equalise United. In the 80th minute, Casemiro headed home captain Bruno Fernandes’ free-kick to restore United’s aggregate lead.

Five minutes later, Rasmus Hojlund scored a third goal after a smooth move started by Amad Diallo, who cut back from the byline. After collecting up a loose ball in Bilbao’s half, Mount scored his second goal deep into stoppage time with a stunning long-range shot.

“It was a long wait for a night like that,” Mount stated post-game.

“I continued going, training hard every day, and staying positive. When I could, I wanted to make a difference. He said it paid off tonight.

Manchester United won the encounter 7-1 on aggregate, maintaining their competitive unbeaten streak.
