Porto replaced coach Vitor Bruno on Monday after losing to lowly Nacional and Gil Vicente, leaving the two-time Champions League winners third in the Primeira Liga after 18 matches.
Bruno joined the club in June 2024 on a two-year contract to replace Sergio Conceicao, who left after seven seasons and 11 titles, including three Portuguese league crowns.
Porto are the 12th club to change managers this season, following Benfica’s August firing of German Roger Schmidt and Sporting’s November loss of Ruben Amorim to Manchester United.
After Porto lost the League Cup to Sporting 1-0 in the semi-final, midfielder Pepe criticized Bruno on social media.
Porto, one of 32 clubs to qualify for the expanded 2025 Club World Cup in the U.S. from June 15 to July 13, play Olympiacos on Thursday in the Europa League.
