Ruud Van Nistelrooy Leaves Leicester City: What’s Next?

Leicester City announced on Friday that they had mutually parted ways with manager Ruud van Nistelrooy nine weeks after their Premier League relegation. After firing Steve Cooper, Van Nistelrooy took over Leicester in November while the club was in 16th place. Campaign ended on 18th.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid striker started his Leicester season with a win but only won five matches. Leicester announced his departure on Friday, stating both parties are breaking up respectfully. Ruud oversaw a difficult period for the club. The club thanks him for his devotion and hard work and wishes him well in the future “Leicester said in a statement.

Van Nistelrooy, one of the Premier League’s top attackers, managed PSV Eindhoven to the Dutch Cup before becoming United’s assistant coach under Erik Ten Hag. After Ten Hag left, he was Old Trafford’s interim coach until Ruben Amorim took over. Van Nistelrooy thanked Leicester players and staff.

“I would like to thank the Leicester City players, coaches, academy, and staff I have worked with for their professionalism and dedication during my time at the club,” Van Nistelrooy said.

The first-team coaching staff will oversee pre-season until a new manager is hired, Leicester said.
