Ugarte Supports Amorim Amid Poor Season

After finishing 15th in the Premier League last season, Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte has encouraged manager Ruben Amorim to turn things around. The team is driven and unified under Amorim, Ugarte told British media on Monday. “We believe in the coach.”

United’s poorest Premier League result ever followed Amorim’s November takeover, when he won just seven of 27 matches. United missed out on Champions League qualification and lost to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final.

“We must improve,” Ugarte remarked.

“We are all very motivated because we believe in the coach and what he wants, which is very important,” said the Uruguayan, who played for Amorim at Sporting.

The Uruguayan midfielder, who played under Amorim at Sporting CP, said the team changed last season, including a manager and formation.

“Last year we made some changes, we changed our coach, we changed our formation,” he said.

“United players have obligations. Relationships might take time to develop. I know the league and competitors, which matters.”

Manchester United are in the US for their pre-season tour and will play two friendlies against Bournemouth in Chicago on Wednesday and Everton in Atlanta on Sunday.

On August 17, Manchester United will play Arsenal in the 2025–26 Premier League.
