Viktor Gyokeres Joins Arsenal Transfer News

On Friday, foreign media speculated that Arsenal will sign Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyokeres this weekend. Gyokeres will have a medical checkup on Saturday as the deal ends a long-running transfer rumour.

In media sources, the Gunners agreed to pay Sweden international €73 million ($86m). The striker’s departure was delayed due to contract add-on negotiations between both clubs. The transfer will be finalised this week, and his previous club accepted €63m plus €10m in add-ons.

Gyokeres will wear No. 14, which is linked to the club’s record scorer Thierry Henry. In 66 Sporting CP appearances, the striker has scored 68 league goals.

Early in July, British media reported that the clubs had reached a deal in principle, although add-ons were still unclear. Concerns have been resolved.

Gyokeres only wanted to join Arsenal, despite late interest from other clubs. The Swede’s agent renounced his commission to facilitate the transition and sign a five-year contract. After agreeing on personal terms and a five-year contract with Arsenal, Gyokeres’ deal with Sporting was likely to move fast.

Arsenal has been active in their first summer transfer window under new sporting director Andrea Berta.
