Why Is Bernardo Silva Leaving Manchester City?

The departure of Bernardo Silva out of Manchester City has officially been confirmed and it has been a wonderful nine-year journey at Manchester City. When his contract runs out in June, the Portuguese midfielder will become a free agent. Silva has since joined in 2017 after being acquired by AS Monaco and has grown to be one of the most dependable and astute players in the hands of Pep Guardiola.

His retirement brings to an end an illustrious period of tactical versatility, technical prowess and winning results. At City, Silva has been at the center of several Premier League and the much-anticipated UEFA Champions League victory of the club. His skills in playing in midfield, wide positions and also in deeper positions were a major tactical tool in the system of Guardiola.

Silva talked about Manchester as a place that realized his childhood dream in his emotional farewell message on Instagram. He gave special mention to the club, his teammates, and staff in how they were helpful, and how his personal life was also prosperous in his time in England. Silva himself was thankful to the fans and made it clear that he will never lose his association with the club.

His message was not only a professional achievement but a strong emotional connection at almost ten years of their relationship. His next club is not yet known but it is said that he is being shown interest by SL Benfica, and clubs in Spain, Saudi Arabia, and in Major League Soccer.

Manchester City should provide him with a decent goodbye in their last home matches at the Etihad Stadium as fans will celebrate one of the most impactful midfielders of the Guardiola era.
